Futon Mattresses Are Best

By the Staff at Futon Mattress Info

When considering the purchase of a futon mattress, there are some specific points to consider.  We will be covering several of these points here.

Before we get into that discussion, let’s take a minute to dispel some of the myths regarding futons.

1.    Comfort
The first and foremost concern is comfort.  Any mattress, no matter of make or model, must be comfortable to you or it is not worth any price.  Even the most inexpensive mattress will actually end up ‘costing you’ in terms of restless sleep and possible discomfort or back or neck pain.  You can find a quality and comfortable mattress for less than you might think.  This is where futon mattresses make great sense.

2.    Price

As alluded to in the comfort section, price is not the sole determinant of quality.  You can find mattresses that span the spectrum from very cheap to extremely expensive.  While there is some merit to the ‘you get what you pay for’ mantra, this is not always the case.  Sometimes, the steep discounts apply to last year’s model or some discontinued model.  These are not necessarily bad mattresses, but you’ll need to do your homework first to ensure this.  Often, with a discounted mattress, the return policy is a bit different.

This is just another reason why a futon makes a great choice.  Futons have come a long way in terms of both comfort and cost.  Since you can find a futon with many if not all of the same features as a traditional mattress, why would you need to spend more for the same or less, in some cases?  In fact, you can also get a futon in many of the popular ‘green’ styles now with less off-gassing agents and non-sustainably grown products.

3.    Durability

While this is just a matter of fact, your mattress should be able to have some lasting power.  You don’t want your mattress to last just a few years or so, even with proper care.  Your mattress should be able to last anywhere from 5-10 years or more.  With newer materials and manufacturing, it isn’t the case that your futon will get flattened like those old ones from years ago.  The newer futons are much more like a traditional mattress in this regard.

There you have it, three great reasons to consider a futon mattress for your next bed.  Even if you don’t plan on having it in a guest or spare room, your futon will give you many nights of great rest.  The added flexibility that a futon couch can give you is just a bonus.
