Getting the House Ready
We just found out that we have company coming next month! Our oldest daughter and her fiance are coming into town. With his parents.
When I saw that email, I turned to Blake and I said “You need to paint the guestroom.”
He grunted in response. But I know it will get done. He’s good that way.
Not long ago we replaced the guest bed with a futon bed. So I know that the Phillips will sleep well anyway. It had been a real toss up on the guest bed. As you know I’m a futon fan, but Blake has a friend at work who loves kingsdown mattresses. Since they are both back ache sufferers, he told Blake all about this Body Dynamic stuff that gives you a great night’s sleep. Blake was thinking we put our old mattress in the guest room and get the kingsdown for our room. I put my foot down. No way were our guests going to sleep on our old mattress! We could talk about a new mattress for our bed after April 15th. So, where the future in-laws are sleeping was all settled. What we’re going to feed them and do with them is another matter.
I’ve been peppering Blake with questions for days now. “Honey, our kitchen is too small. Where are we all gonna sit?”
“I’m not remodeling the kitchen, if that’s what you’re asking. We can use the dining room. We never use the dining room. And it’s just a weekend, hon. You don’t have to cook. We can eat out.”
“We are joining with this family. I want them to feel welcome. I have to make at least one dinner. You need to figure out how the six of us are going to fit around the table.” And then I stopped short. “Blake! We don’t have enough chairs! Remember how you broke the one and said you’d fix it and –”
He patted my hand. “I’ve got it covered.”
Later when I asked him (nicely — I didn’t want him to think I was checking up on him) he said he’d found a great website, did some research and bought folding chairs online.
I was shocked. “Honey, you don’t like to spend money. Ever. Why did you do that?”
He smiled. “We’ll need extra chairs for the grandkids.”
That shut me up for awhile.
